Honoring Leadership, Service, and Hope: Morgan Belardo's Fight Against Alzheimer's

Jeff Klemp

Representative David Buehler and I were honored to present a Kansas Senate Tribute to Morgan Belardo in recognition of the 9th Annual Sweet Exchange fundraiser and her extraordinary leadership in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

After her father, Jose, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, Morgan chose to turn a deeply personal challenge into a mission of hope. What began as a Girl Scout Gold Award project has grown into a community-wide effort that has raised more than $100,000 for Alzheimer's research, awareness, and support for families facing this difficult journey.

Today, Morgan is a successful pastry chef with Disney, yet she continues to return home each year to support the cause she helped create. Her commitment is a powerful reminder that one person can make a lasting difference when they combine passion with purpose.

This recognition also belongs to the many volunteers, bakers, chefs, community leaders, and supporters who have helped build the Sweet Exchange into something truly special. Teamwork truly makes the dream work.

I was proud to advocate this past session in the Kansas Senate for investments in Alzheimer's, dementia, and mental health services across Kansas, and Representative David Buehler helped lead these efforts in the House. Together, the Kansas Legislature continues to invest in innovative solutions that strengthen access to care, support caregivers, and improve outcomes for Kansas families.

Congratulations, Morgan. Thank you for your leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to keeping Alzheimer's awareness at the forefront. Your work honors your father's legacy and is making a lasting difference in the lives of others.
